A few months before the baby is born, many prospective parents begin to arrange a place for the baby. But not all families have enough space. More and more parents are sharing the bedroom with babies.
Sometimes this makes a parent’s heart calmer. Placing a crib in the same room as a parent for the first 6 months can reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Other families choose to share a bedroom with a baby because they do not have an extra bedroom.
Whatever the reason, here are some tips to help families sleep comfortably while sharing a bedroom with a baby.
Create a nursery area
Just because your baby doesn’t have his room doesn’t mean he can’t have his room. If you have a bedroom that is large enough, create a baby’s bedroom area by using physical separators such as curtains or bookshelves.
If the room is too small to use a physical divider, use colour to distinguish the nursery area. Choose a colour that matches the existing decoration. You can paint the wall as an accent behind the baby’s bed. Or use a carpet large enough for the nursery area.
